Beyond Blogs

This week we were able to elaborate more on other aspects of the professional self. Sponsored market, visual marketing, and appended customer service contract are all key factors to also consider with developing a professional self. Smart speakers like Alexa, in the millennial generation were also noted in the lecture. The Z generation was noted as well to be the first truly digital native group. The class also looked at a number of different Ads, and had class discussions about them. We talked about the strong points, and some things that could have some improvements made to them.

Peer Review #3

For the third peer review, I was assigned Mileys blog, which incorporates both food and travel as on website. I haven’t seen a blog that fits both aspects yet, so it was very interesting and appealing to myself once learning about the basic theme of her blog. The visuals she has added to her home page, along with the general layout of the design she chose, really fit hand in hand with each other. To expand on this, she has a scenic, tranquil photo that takes up most of the home page once you click onto her website. Then, the simple and clean looking layout she chose makes sure to not make the general visual of the website look too crowded. In terms of her general business plan in context, she hasn’t really clarified the locations of the specific meals she has had. For example, on he L.A trip, she posted a variety of foods such as strawberry cheesecake, and pasta carbonara, however none of them mention which restaurant she ate this, which would have been very helpful for people who are interested in gaining more insight on her blog in general. I would suggest aiming better with details and making sure not to miss anything that could be useful to the reader. If she would like to stand out from other food/travel blogs, she should bring her own unique touch. Being different from the crowd is what will make her stand out and be successful in the long run I am sure! Reading about Miley’s reason as to why she travels was very touching, and well thought out. Opening up about travelling to Canada for school and meeting new people as well as experiencing the very different culture present around our society, is a very nice perspective to read about in general. One more suggestion is to include more links within her post as well. I was not able to find any links other than her social media on her posts. Providing links to the restaurants or travel sights she has written and talked about, will help readers navigate more easily in her website. This way they are simply a click away to learning more about what Miley has written about in her blog posts. To conclude, It is very pleasing viewing Mileys magnificent work that she has put into her website, with great visuals, and very fascinating blog posts about food and travel experiences, I suggest her to focus more now on the business aspect of her blog, and to break down, into categories, what her goals are for the future.

Big Data

A more analytical approach was taken this week in classes, to understand an in depth approach at the techniques used like market research, consumer data, and big data are all intertwined into having a successful platform. Taking a look into google analytics will also be helpful, since this gives immediate feedback, into the areas an individual needs to focus and improve on.

Monetize or not to Monetize?

This week the class was able to become more familiarized with monetization strategies. What exactly is the significance of this? its an extremely important marketing tool to help people take a look at the bigger picture, and the competition around them. We learned of the big companies such as Instagram, Netflix, and even amazons approaches used.

Beyond Logos

This weeks class, was very insightful in the sense that we looked at social media platforms, as well as memes, avatars, and in general ways in which people are able to enhance their current websites. I’ve learned about quite a bit of websites in which I am looking forward to viewing, like biteable and visme. I am planning to work on my blog in the next couple weeks and especially focusing more on visuals which I think will add a lot of benefit, information, and creativity!

Peer Review #2

For our second peer review, I was assigned Lianne (Megumi) Cooks. Megumi’s blog is focused on reviews for coffee shops as well as restaurants. Her blog theme radiates a sense of calmness and tranquility, which was one of the first things I noticed once scrolling through her website.  Within her bog posts, she greatly describes all her visits, one particularly named “the espresso series #2”.  The descriptive words used within almost every sentence which brings such a vivid imagery to mind, is extremely pleasing to read! To elaborate, she says terms such as “nutty” and “warm” to describe the taste of her espresso drink. In terms of her media, I don’t see too many linked sites other than the simple website link of the shops she visited. Megumi can possibly work on this as a suggestion, of providing even more links to past shops or even related links to certain topics within each post. This way, the readers can look more into exactly what she is trying to describe, and they will even more likely visit her recommended stores.  Furthermore, Megumi can also work on making more content available within her website, since I don’t see too many blog posts in general. In contrast I see more process posts than blog posts. If this improvement can be made, it will add to her collection of recommendations, and provide more variety within her feed. Megumi has a great about me page, which describes who she is and where she is from, it adds more insight to the general platform. Another suggestion I would make is that I can only see positive feedback from the places she has visited. Honesty will come with some form of negative feedback. I’m not saying that she should completely bash some places, but even informing the readers on some inconveniences she may have faced, such as the route to getting to the places, or even her experiences inside such as possible waiting time being too long. These types of suggestions will all help the viewers analyze at a greater depth, the locations that Megumi has suggested. Other than that, as mentioned, her general content and theme is very appealing to the eye.  The simplistic white background, with little detailed images added within the background provide great contrast when simply viewing the website. The descriptive words used within all of her posts are also extremely detailed, to the point of describing the touch, taste, and smell of some items.

” You’ve Establish your professional self”

Todays class covered the importance of going over huge errors made in big industry names ( such as DOVE, snapchat, etc.) and how crucial it is to make sure whatever you are posting is appropriate, and will not create any type of backlash to ANYONE. It is always important to remain having respect to people around the world, and when creating a professional self, this is something that is very necessary to understand an follow.

Guest Speaker: John Burns

This week, the class had the pleasure of hearing from the incredibly talented John Burns. His lecture was extremely informative and insightful, explaining the ins and outs of journalism and story telling in general. I have personally never heard from a professional point of view, how the career itself is, and hearing advice from someone who has spent his entire adult life in the field of study was very intriguing! Moreover, the class participated in an activity exploring “The 7 basic plots “. This activity really helped me get in touch with my creative side, and opening my mind to future ideas for my blog.

Conversations “With” not “At”

This week, we learned about the importance of not speaking AT customers, but differentiating this from actually speaking with them. This is a very important concept to understand, since its very important building a relationship with your customers, and if you come from a point of view that is almost in a way of putting yourself higher up than them, then the respect will not be present any longer.

Audience, Metrics, and Analytics

This week our class went over the importance of analytics, metrics, and our audience. I hope with the more content that I plan to post in the upcoming future, my analytics for my website will increase. Moreover, the audience in which websites target is crucial to understand and analyze. Without this, you wont be able to describe what you should base your future decisions on for content.
